王祥卧冰的传说

洛阳市有条南北流向的小河沟，流经涧西区工农街道三岔口社区、西马沟社区、尤东社区、尤西社区、王湾社区旁，原是黄河的支流，河水充盈时，黄河里的鲤鱼逆水而上，成为人们争相品尝的美味佳肴。因西晋太保王祥出仕前曾在此河上卧冰求鱼孝敬继母朱氏，人们称这条河叫“王祥河”或“孝水”。如今此处有古碑一通，虽碑文字迹漫漶难辨，但“晋太保孝王祥之碑”几个大字依然清晰。关于这条河有个美丽的传说，加上河沟处红色的岩石和土层，使人们相信这里就是二十四孝之一的王祥卧冰求鲤处。北魏郦道元的《水经注》，清乾隆年间的《洛阳县志》以及当代许多地方文献对此都有论及。王祥卧冰的传说就是由此传向四面八方，并成为民间文学宝库中一枝奇葩。

There is a small river, originally a tributary of the Yellow River, flowing from north to south near Ximagou Village, Jianxi District. When the river was full, carps in the Yellow River went up against the flow and became a delicacy to each household. The river was named Wang Xiang River or Xiao(Fidelity) River because Wang Xiang, the Grand Guardian of the Western Jin Dynasty(266-316), lay on the ice begging for fish to honor his stepmother Zhu before he became an official. A monument was erected to commemorate Wang' s filial piety and the script "The Monument of Grand Guardian Wang Xiang of Jin'" was carved on it.The nearby Wang Xianghe Village and the red rocks and soil layers in the river channel remind people that this is the place where the story of Wang Xiang, among the Twenty-four Filial Deeds in China, happened, which can be traced in Shuijingzhu( Commentary on the Waterways Classic)of Li Daoyuan in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), Luoyang County Annals of the Qing Dynasty and many other local documents. The story was spread all over the country and became a shining pearl in folk literature and is still of practical significance in the present day.
