Liangluo Village Clay Doll originated in the Jiajing reign period of the Ming Dynasty having a history of nearly 500 years. The Yang's family was the first group of people that engaged in clay sculptures, selling different sizes of clay dolls in the temple fair of the village. The popular clay dolls made Yang' s business successful. Yang's wealth made the villagers envious, so the whole village began to make clay dolls. Liangluo Village has a unique kind of clay which can be made into the clay dolls known as "red coal clay" which exists deep down the underground. The clay, with high density, high toughness and fine grain, is conducive to the making of clay dolls. The production of the clay doll is quite complicated. According to Liu Heiting, the craftsman of clay doll, it takes patience to make a clay figurine. The specific production processes are as follows. The first step is to hammer the cotton paper with water, dry out the coal clay, soak it with water, and then out of the air for a while. The second step is to mix with cotton paper evenly, and take it out wrapped in plastic paper for use. The third step is to roll the clay into a piece, divide into several pieces, press it into the designed mold, and take it out after slightly demolding. The following step is to glue the front and back part, dry it after adding a bottom of the clay sculpture, and then water and rub the dry dolls making it smooth And the clay dolls are put into the white water which is mixed by white clay (Longmen Mountain Clay) and glue, making the face of the clay doll white enough. The final step is to dry the white clay doll, paint the nose, eyes and mouth with colors, and draw clothes and accessories on it.
