小米黄酒是一种中温性的药酒，由小米和中药发酵而成。在古代，小米黄酒是中药的药引，不但能提高药的疗效，还有解毒、矫味、保护肠胃的作用。

中医的方剂有汤、丸、散、膏、丹、酒、露等十余种剂型。其中酒剂，古称“酒醴”，亦称“药酒”。繁体的“醫”字中即能看到“酒”的雏形。

最早见于文献的，是《黄帝内经》中的“鸡矢醴”，《金匮要略》中亦有红兰花酒的记载。不同于白酒、葡萄酒的是，黄酒是用糯米或小米发酵而制，性味温厚，既是药品又是饮料和食品。

小米黄酒含有21种氨基酸及大量维生素，其中8种元素是人体自身不能合成而又必不可缺的。

中医认为黄酒能通血脉、利肠胃、润皮肤、养脾气、护肝胆、除风湿、祛塞、补血、养颜，具有与中药天然揉合的因子和亲和性。作为药引，不但能将药物的有效成份溶解出来，还能将药效引导到有关经络和脏腑而祛除身体的疾病。千百年来，黄酒的药、食两用价值，体现得越来越充分。李时珍曾在《本草纲目》中指出，“诸酒醇醴不同，唯米酒而入药用。”

另外，还有70余种药酒需要黄酒作为酒基而配制，它广泛地使用在内、妇、外等各种剂型中。
