西关毛氏膏药始创于清末的新安县，名扬于河洛之间，至今已有一百余年的历史。创始人毛九皋生于清朝末年。其擅长外用（膏、丹）内服（丸、散）之自做药类，尤其外用膏药最为有名，俗名“黑青药”“拔毒消肿膏”。毛氏膏药解放前一直在新安县及周边有较大影响，解放后毛氏膏药传承人到石家庄市工作，使西关毛氏膏药在石家庄也有了一定的影响力。1960年，毛氏膏药的传人调回洛阳工作，此后毛氏膏药在洛阳市老城区安家落户。1969年，老城区成立西关膏药厂，并获得市文教组批准成批生产膏药，所制膏药定名“活血消肿膏”。

西关毛氏膏药是根据中药归经原则，运用药物互相协调为用的效能，组成多味药物的大复方，采用大戟、甘遂、芫花、甘草、海藻、没药、全虫、蜈蚣、红花、当归、乳香、皂刺等30余味中药材作为原料，具有安全无毒、药效快捷、价格低廉、透气性佳、使用方便等特征，作为祖国传统中医药文化的一个重要组成部分，西关毛氏膏药继承了祖国膏药学的精髓，其精湛的制药技艺蕴涵了几千年膏药文化，凝聚了中华民族在和疾病长期斗争过程中总结的智慧和丰富经验。

Xiguan Mao' s Plaster was founded in Xin' an County at the end of the Qing Dynasty(1616AD-1912AD). It is famous in Heluo area and has a history of more than 100 years. Mao Jiugao, the founder, who was born in the late Qing Dynasty(1616 AD- 1912 AD), is good at making drugs for external use (ointment, pill) and internal use (pill, powder), especially the topical plaster is the most famous, the common names are"black plaster"and"toxin-removing and swelling plaster". In 2001, Mao Yufeng, the fifth generation successor of Xiguan Mao famaliy's Plaster, was awarded the title of"Contemporary Heluo Famous Doctor" by Luoyang Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Xiguan Mao's Plaster is a large compound prescription composed of multi-flavor drugs according to the principle of channel tropism of traditional Chinese medicine and the efficacy of coordination of drugs, which uses 30 Chinese-medicinal materials as raw materials, such as Euphorbia pekinensis, kansui root, Daphne flower, licorice root, seaweed, myrrh, scorpion, centipede, safflower, angelica root, frankincense, Gleditsia spina, etc. It has the characteristics of safety, non-toxicity, quick medicinal effect, low price, good breathability, easy to use, etc. It has a good therapeutic effect on acute mastitis, acute parotitis, bone tuberculosis and other diseases.
