    洛阳宫灯是一种特色传统工艺品，元宵佳节常见的装饰品。品种繁多，具有浓厚的地方特色。常见的有白帽方灯、红纱圆灯、六色龙头灯、走马灯、蝴蝶灯、二龙戏珠灯、罗汉灯等等，尤以红纱灯最为有名。其造型优美，宜书宜画，撑合自如、易于保存。既可用于喜庆饰品，点升平；又可作艺术宣传，表彰新风。

    洛阳宫灯历史悠久，它创自东汉，盛于南唐，久传不衰。相传汉光武帝建都洛阳后，于元宵佳节在宫廷里张灯结彩，大摆宴席，盏盏宫灯，各呈艳姿。后来，宫灯的制作技术，逐渐传出宫廷，流向民间。“宫灯”之名，即由此得来。隋炀帝大业三年（607年），迁都洛阳后的第一个元宵夜，即在洛阳新宫内外和天津桥上陈设百戏，遍饰宫灯，饮宴畅游。隋唐时期，每逢元宵佳节，洛阳全城家家宝灯高挂，处处明灯璀深，人人提灯胜游，盏盏争奇斗艳。这种风俗，风靡全国，波及海外。宋以后，洛阳屡遭战乱，很多传统文化遭到严重破坏，但宫灯制作技术，一直流传至今。

The Luoyang Palace Lantern is a kind of Chinese traditional characteristic handicraft, which is usually used to decorate during the Latern Festival. It has a lot of different shapes, one of which is called Red Gauze Lattern. The Red Gauze Lattern is famous for its beautiful shape, Chinese calligraphy or painting decorations and easy-preserve features. It is usually used as decorations on special occasions such as wedding, festival, art propaganda, etc. The Luoyang Palace Lantern was invented in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD)and got more and more popular and prosperous in Sui and Tang Dynasties. Legend has it that after founding Luoyang as the capital of the Han Dynasty in the period of Emperor Guangwu, there were many beautiful palace lanterns decorating the palace in the Lantern Festival. Later, the technique of making the lanterns were learnt by the folk. That' s why it's called the Luoyang Palace Lantern. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, people usually decorated their houses with Luoyang Palace Lanterns or hung out with lanterns to provide a shaded light on the Lantern Festival. At that time, the custom was popular in the whole country and even abroad. After the Song Dynasty, as the country suffered a lot from wars, the Lantern Festival was not as popular as before. While the technique of making the Luoyang Palace Lantern was kept until today.
